Test Content
The TOEIC® Listening and Reading test is a paper-and-pencil, multiple-choice assessment. There are two timed sections of 100 questions each.
Section I: Listening
Listening Comprehension: 100 items
Photographs: 10 questions
Question-Response: 30 questions
30 conversations with 1 question each
Conversations: 30 questions;
10 conversations with 3 questions each
Talks: 30 questions;
10 talks with 3 questions each
Section II: Reading
Test takers read a variety of materials and respond at their own pace (100 items total).
- Incomplete Sentences: 40 questions
- Text Completion: 12 questions
- Single Passages: 28 questions;
7–10 reading texts with 2–5 questions each - Double Passages: 20 questions;
4 pairs of reading texts with 5 questions per pair
Test Length
The test takes approximately 2½ hours, with:
- 45 minutes for Section I
- 75 minutes for Section II
- approximately 30 minutes to answer biographical questions
